If you’re in San Francisco in February, you can’t miss Noise Pop, the city’s annual indie music, art and film festival. Arts and culture events, film screenings, workshops, live sessions, and guest speakers take place throughout the week. Noise Pop also includes the ever-popular Noise Pop Film Series, Pop ‘N’ Shop, Culture Club, gallery art shows and other cultural activities.
The week long celebration of indie music and culture provides needed exposure to emerging artists. Some of the artists featured in past Noise Pop are now famous, including The White Stripes, Death Cab for Cutie, The Shins, Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse, The Flaming Lips, The Donnas, Jeff Tweedy (of Wilco) and others. The festival has also featured underground music legends such as Sleater-Kinney, Bob Mould, X, Frank Black (of the Pixies), and Television.
Although some of the musical events can be pricey, a few of the scheduled activities are free, including the happy hour concerts that take place all week
