The Nutcracker Ballet has become a family tradition for many each year around the holidays. So I’ve made it a tradition to round up the Nutcracker performances that have special ticket discount offers and post them here on Savvy Cities. These offers tend to sell out way ahead of holiday time, so if you’re interested in going, plan ahead.
Each city has its own way of presenting the timeless story of Clara and the Prince. As one example, in my neck of the woods, the San Francisco Ballet Nutcracker features a special backdrop that depicts the City of San Francisco during the 1915 World’s Fair, and the dancers are decked out in Victorian costumes. Moscow Ballet’s The Great Russian Nutcracker is known for following Tchaikovsky’s complete Nutcracker Suite score, but the second act journey goes to the Land Of Peace and Harmony, to symbolize cultural unity, instead of visiting the sugar plum fairies scene.
This year New York is doing a Hip Hop Nutcracker, and Los Angeles has something called the Hot Chocolate Nutcracker. What makes your cities Nutcracker Ballet distinctive?
UPDATE: All Nutcracker tickets are sold out for this holiday season. Check back next year.
