Follow English bachelor Phileas Fogg and his faithful manservant Passepartout as they attempt to make good on a £20,000 wager that they can circumnavigate the globe in record time. However, before too long into their journey, they encounter stampeding elephants, raging typhoons and the occasional runaway train ... will they ever complete the trip in time? Bryan Schmidt directs this whirlwind of a show at the Magenta Theater.

Carol Triffle's latest comedy, Beaux Arts Club, turns that historic institution on its head. Triffle gleefully riffs on female competition and the subversive nature of support groups. The play centers on three hilariously misguided female artists whose frustrations with their art and their own pointless lives lead them to engage in crazier and crazier hijinks. Let's just say a karaoke machine is involved as well as a series of young men who are objectified by the women for a change. Part absurdist farce, part irreverent social critique, Beaux Arts Club is both a role-reversal of the battle of the sexes and a gender-blind critique of the poseur in today's society.

Inspired by the Broadway favorites of Porter and Gershwin, this is a musical adaptation that will set your toes to tapping. The beautiful but put-upon Cinderella must toil all day under the smirking demands of her awful stepsisters -- and then sleep among the cinders come night. Cinderella finds a way to make it to the Prince's ball, though, and even manages to capture his heart. Yes, she loses one of her shoes in the process, but what she gains is more precious than all the gold in the kingdom. This production will be best enjoyed by audience members who are at least 5 years of age.

Even after the student realizes the damage she has done, she sticks by her falsehoods, leading to tragedy for the two women. A gripping drama, Lillian Hellman's debut play ran for two years on Broadway, a precursor to her success writing for the stage and screen. This defunkt theatre production features an accomplished ensemble of local Portland talent on stage and behind-the-scenes.
	Portland: $6.00 for The Americans, James Low & Lewi Longmire ($12.00 value) Full price: ($12.00 value) Our price: $6.00 for Folk-rockers The Americans headline a show of true roots music, featuring Portland singer-songwriters James Low and Lewi Longmire and 24-year-old Bram Vanparys, otherwise known as the Bony King of Nowhere. The rockabilly and bluegrass-influenced The Americans recently released their first full disc, Home Recordings, appeared on Letterman and were also featured on the compilation Son of Rogue's Gallery, as well as contributing songs to the soundtrack of the 2011 film Texas Killing Fields. James Low heads up his own four-piece band with an outsider-country bent, while well-known Portland musician Lewi Longmire is an Americana singer-songwriter as well. As for the Bony King of Nowhere, he's Belgian composer Bram Vanparys, whose unique sound is making an international impact.

As individuals, Watkins was a member of Grammy-winning group Nickel Creek, while Brosseau has been a sought-after songwriter. Together they push the boundaries of folk music and indie rock to create an engaging sound that's anchored by deft, knowing lyrics. Joining them during this performance is multi-instrumentalist Ritchie Young of Portland-based pop crew Loch Lomond, and singer-songwriter Shelley Short.

Payne has created a very personal and interactive show, Tracing Footsteps - A Journal of Music, Photography and Tales from the Road, which combines stories from his life in music, solo performances of classics like "Truck Stop Girl" and "Oh Atlanta," a sampling of his art photography and a Q&A with the audience. The Hooligans will both open and back up Payne later in the show, while special guest Dennis McNally, longtime official publicist for the Grateful Dead, will also be on hand to share stories from his Deadhead days. As Little Feat won't be touring this year, this is a rare opportunity to see Payne play at the height of his powers.

The play begins as two couples meet to work things out after one of their children attacks the other in the park. As their discussion progresses and the rum flows, their behavior devolves from civilized to outrageous as each couple tries to pin the blame on the other for the incident. You'll wonder if the parents are anything more than overgrown children, even as you laugh out loud at their antics. From acid dialogue to broad physical comedy, this play will defy your expectations at every turn, becoming more hilarious with every scene. God of Carnage won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2009 and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in the same year.
