The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, in San Francisco, is a free series of performances — May through October — that includes no less than 100 events, from classical and jazz concerts, to opera and international music, to theater, dance, family programs, visual art exhibits, educational programs and cultural events.

This oasis in downtown San Francisco will give you a chance to kick back and enjoy entertaining performances in a cool grassy setting, waterfall included, all for free. If you’re staying a while, bring a blanket, picnic and low-back lawn chair.

The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival 2014 schedule promises another summer of world class performances (scroll down to see the line-up). If you’re staying a while, you might want to bring a blanket or low-back lawn chair to sit on.  There are no food vendors inside the the Yerba Buena Gardens Esplanade area, but you can pack a picnic, or grab a bite at one of the nearby eateries.

SAVVY TIPS: To make your visit even easier.

  1. Yerba Buena Gardens is s open daily from 6:00 AM–10:00 PM
  2. Parking — street parking is available near the Garden. Closest garages include:
    • Yerba Buena Garage, Fifth & Mission
    • Moscone Garage, Moscone Center
    • Hearst Parking Center, 45 Third St., between Market & Mission
  3. Closest BART/MUNI: Powell and Montgomery Street stations.
  4. Golden Gate Transit, SamTrans and AC Transit downtown bus routes can also get you there.
